Letter From Recruitment Chair

Dear Potential New Member,

I know there aren’t words to describe the emotions many of you are feeling. Some of you may be filled with excitement and awe as you look forward to this new transition, others may be feeling nervous and anxious to step into this new season. I remember experiencing all of those same feelings when I packed up and moved to Oxford four years ago… 10 hours away from all my family and friends, hopeful and nervous for the journey ahead. I remember there being many things I was looking for in a home throughout recruitment week. I wanted to feel safe and loved, I wanted a place where I was free to be myself and where I could make friendships that would last forever. I wanted a family in Oxford- I wanted a true sisterhood. From the bottom of my heart, I can say that I have found all that and so much more within Phi Mu. These are the girls I laugh and dance with. These are the girls I go on weekend trips and lock the Vaught with. These are the girls that I cry and pray with. These are the girls that pick me right back up when I fall. The women I have been lucky enough to find within Phi Mu make Oxford feel just like home- these are the friends I will have forever and the girls I never want to leave.

My hope and prayer for you, our sweet potential new members, is that you find a place that feels exactly like home and that you don’t put all your worth in the letters that you may wear across your chest on Bid Day, but instead in the One who created you. My hope and prayer is that you find girls that will be your friends forever- I know I did.

Take every second of it in, because it will all be over before you know it. One day you’ll be looking back on some of the best years of your life wondering where all the time went. If I could go back and do it all again, I would! And I wouldn’t change a single thing!

With love and encouragement,

McKenna Williams
